My name is Samantha McPherson and I am currently a freshman at Saginaw Valley State University majoring in Nursing. I was born in 1996 in a small town in South – East Michigan, called Saginaw, but we moved just an hour away to Grand Blanc when I was six years old. My father works as an accountant and has his own business and my mother works at my grandparents family business. I have one older sister and she is currently working on her Masters degree as an accountant. Her health problems have inspired me to dedicate my life to helping others.
I love playing sports, reading, and spending time with my family and friends. Throughout my life I played a variety of different team and individual sports including softball and ski racing. These extracurricular activities taught me the importance of teamwork and the importance of practicing a task in order to master it. As a future member of a healthcare team, the idea of teamwork is crucial in order to be successful. I will be required to work alongside other medical professionals everyday.
Additionally, I worked as a sales associate at a jewelry store after school and over the summer and I also babysat for several different families. These jobs taught me the overall ways of the workforce. They helped me grow up to become a reliable and hard – working employee. They also encouraged me to continue to follow my dreams of entering the medical field. During my senior year of high school I had the opportunity to become a medical intern for a teacher at my school. This experience taught me the importance of every task I am assigned. Throughout my life my experiences have helped me develop the necessary skills to become a successful nurse. I am excited to bring my hard – work and determination to the medical field.
